In 1998 Roderick accepted the position as Technical Manager and Consultant for Playbill Venue Management, managers of the Hordern Pavilion and Royal Hall of Industry.  The Hordern Pavilion is predominately a rock concert venue, catering for 5500pax, the Royal Hall of Industries is mainly a exhibition venue with 5,600m2 space.  Both were set-up to offer multifunctional venues which are utilised for tradeshows, exhibitions, corporate events, theatre performances and dance parties.  The venues can operate independently or linked together sharing the large forecourt area.

My core responsibilities included looking after high-profile events during the renovation, such as the Mercedes Australian Fashion Week and Mardi Gras Party, of both venues and involved a high level of consultation with the construction company, Lend Lease,  to ensure the venues remained functional for events and were handed back to the construction company to continue the renovations.

Upon the completion of the renovations I was offered the position of Technical Manager for Playbill Venue Management, and briefly Fox Studios Australia.  In that position I supervised my team to deliver a wide range of concerts, corporate functions, trade exhibitions, dance parties and theatrical performances.  All were delivered on time, on budget and often exceeding expectations of guests and promoters.

 

Some of the more memorable events were ” Tambours sur la Digue“, Théâtre du Soleil in the Royal Hall of Industries, Mercedes Australian Fashion Week Shows in the Hordern Pavilion,  multiple Mardi Gras Parties in both venues and expanding into Moore Park and Fox Studios.

I completed the Public Venue Management School in 2003 and am still an active member of the Venue Management Association (Australia) and a member of the IAVM.
